Yoga FAQs
What type of Yoga classes are offered?
As of right now, all of our instructors are trained in Vinyasa style yoga. Vinyasa is a flowing style of yoga where movement and breath link together, like a moving meditation that builds strength, flexibility, and calm. No two classes are ever the same — each teacher brings their own style and energy!
Do I need prior experience practicing yoga in order to participate in classes?
Nope! All of our classes are beginner friendly. Whether this is your 1st or 100th time practicing, our classes will provide a supportive space to move, breathe, and reconnect with yourself!
Do I need a yoga mat in order to participate in class?
No, you don't need one, however you are welcome to bring one with you! If you don't have a yoga mat, but need padding to practice on, a towel or blanket is a great substitute.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Posted 30th Sep 2025
Author Julia Bourque (President)

Hello fellow members of the Yoga Society!

As some of you may know, over the summer Aaliyah and I discovered that past committee members—encouraged by the former President and Vice-President—were transferring substantial amounts of money from the UL Yoga Society bank account to themselves. They claimed this money was 'payment' for serving on the committee, however, this is considered embezzlement, as our committee positions are strictly volunteer only. As a result, Aaliyah and myself have been working diligently over the summer with the C&S Office to return the money taken back to Society. We, your new committee, would also like to be very transparent now with what funds and payments are used for, as your payments toward the society should be for events run by the society. The bank account is now in Aaliyah and I's names, and we have cut ties with all past committee members. Our list of costs and payments made are down below.

What payments are used for (this semester):

  1. 5 euro membership fees goes towards paying our instructors better for the classes they teach weekly (our instructor's pay is generally 40 euro for one, one hour class, which are also free for all approved members.)
  2. 2-3 euro activity fees for our workshops go towards paying the outside instructors to come in for the one class (their pay is generally around 60-70 euros per one hour class)
  3. All money "made" from workshop fees will go back towards paying instructors for the weekly classes.
  4. The 10 euro activity fee for the day meditation retreat is for the 500 euro cost to rent the bus to the Buddhist centre. All additional costs not covered by the activity fee are covered by the Yoga Society.
  5. We are asking for the 10 euros in cash for the meditation retreat due to transfer costs from the Wolves website to our bank account. This bypasses the extra fees so we can make the event cost as low as possible.
  6. All Revolut and PayPal links on our socials have been deleted as they went into the direct, personal accounts of the previous Vice-President.

We understand if this news puts some distrust in us as a committee, but we wish to work hard this year to regain that trust back. Please be assured that we are working diligently to run the society to its full potential, and are open to any suggestions that you might have. C&S is also helping us to recover the funds taken over the years, however this is taking longer than we had originally thought. This is mostly due to the amount of people they have to contact. Please feel free to email us with any questions/concerns/comments you have in regards to this.

Author Julia Bourque (President)

For week 6 open week we're offering various meditation workshops to help relieve stress and prepare for the second half of the semester!

Monday (13th October): Once again we will be having a sound meditation workshop lead by our lovely Lucia!

Lucia's Bio: Kirtan & Sound Bath meditation is coming together in community to sit and meditate through mantra, chants and sound. This form of meditation allows you to drop out of their head and into your heart.  It is a practice where we meet ourselves more deeply and allow these mantras and chants to embrace the divine within and send our prayers out for wellbeing, peace and joy for ourselves, our families, our communities and our world. After the mantra practice, there will be time to relax into a Sound Bath with Tibetan bowls and sound healing instruments. No prior experience is necessary. Please bring a mat and cushion to sit on and a blanket for cosiness!

Wednesday (15th October): Yoga class in Kilmurry Village Hall will proceed as usual.

Saturday (18th October): One day Meditation Retreat at the Sunyata Buddhist Centre. A ten euro fee is to help offset the cost of the coach bus to the centre. Please note that you must wear loose, comfortable clothing that covers your legs and shoulders. Also please bring an umbrella or rain jacket as a walking meditation session might also be included. Activity list is shown below:

Itinerary:

12:30- Departure from the Stables Bus Stop

13:00- Arrival to the Sunyata Buddhist Centre

13:00-14:00- Meet the Buddhist Monks, short 45-minute meditation session with them.

Hello Yogis!

I'd first like to notify that you MUST book on Wolves if you would like to participate in a class. We have limited space and many people who wish to participate. If you don't get a spot for a class right away, please know that starting from week 4 there will be more classes offered. I will also post upcoming classes the Thursday/Friday for the week before, so please book accordingly. At the same time, if you book on Wolves, and then realize that you cannot participate in the class, please cancel your booking as there is someone else who would like to participate in the class.

Booking for Wednesday's (24th) class is open for those who wish to participate. If you had booked in previously, please double check your booking as there were some technical glitches that I corrected and some bookings got deleted.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask myself or the other committee members!
