About American Football Club

The UL Vikings American Football Team competes in two codes of American Football Kitted and Flag. Kitted Football is full contact football where helmet and pads are worn just like you would see on TV with NFL/NCAA games. Flag Football is similar to Tag Rugby as its non-contact where flags are worn on belts, played on a smaller pitch and is 5 a-side. Flag football is a mixed team and is open to everyone.

The Kitted team compete in AFI(American Football Ireland) Premier Division Championship with the same rules as you see on the NFL/NCAA and the Flag team compete in Division 1 Glass Bowl Championship, with Flag Football featuring in the next Olympics.

American Football is one of the fastest growing sports in Ireland so why not try out this great game and see if it is for you.

  • Equipment is provided by the club, all you need are boots and a gumshield.
  • The sport is great in that there is a role for everyone, ALL sizes and shapes can find their niche.
  • Free gym sessions with qualified personal trainers in the UL Team gym in the Pavilion.
  • Full coaching from a team of experienced coaches.
  • Players from the Vikings have gone on to represent Ireland and some are playing professionally in USA, Canada and Germany.
  • We are also running mens and mixed non-contact Flag Football (very like Tag Rugby) for those that prefer not to do the contact version.
  • We also have non-playing roles in coaching, refereeing or just being fans of the game. Members can join our NFL nights, Madden tournaments and Superbowl Party.
  • Weekly training on Wednesday evening on Maguires Sports Field from 7.30 to 9.30pm and Flag Football training 6pm to 8pm on Monday evenings on Maguires.
