About Kayak Club

Think kayaking is just floating across a lake? Not at UL Kayak Club! If you ever wondered what it would be like to take a kayak down a river then this club is for you. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced kayaker, everybody is welcome!

Join us kayaking in many disciplines such as whitewater, freestyle, long-distance, canoe polo, surf kayaking, and slalom! We host regular whitewater trips on our local river Castleconnell for people to learn river skills! Basic skills can be learned in our pool sessions every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 21:45 along with flatwater freestyle and canoe polo for anybody wishing to try something different. Long-distance trips can be organized at any time on our 6k run behind the boathouse. The Curraghgower Wave and Mulcair also regular local runs done by the more advanced members.

Our club runs many assessments and courses throughout the year for anyone wishing to gain proficiency awards or instructor qualifications. We also attend competitions such as Cranafest, Galway Fest, and Intervarsities where we have a brilliant track record and always show up in force!

If that is not enough, we also run many national and international trips. On our national trips, you will get to experience many Irish rivers along with some kayak surfing in Lahinch. Our winter trip usually takes place in Wales or Scotland for a week and is a great way to use your skills learned through semester 1. The Summer trip to the Alps is the calendar highlight for much of our club! For three weeks our members take on rivers in Slovenia, France, and Italy. The best thing about it? Freshers and beginners who have progressed to a certain proficiency level can come along too!

We have many other non kayaking events throughout the year to incorporate new members into the club too such as the UV paint party and Redbull & Paint event.

So, what are you waiting for? Request membership then sign up to our forum for all the latest news and event info. To do this, visit www.ulkayak.com for more information and click on the Login/Register Button.

See you on the water!
