There are lots of exciting events happening in Craft Society! So far this semester we have done friendship bracelets, mug paintings and crochet hearts/Valentine's Hearts. Our friendship bracelet event was a huge success! Our members learned how to make different friendship bracelet styles including Chinese staircase, candy stripe and chevron. The mug painting event had a great turn out with some adorable different designs. In the image featured is a simple cherry painted mug (it even has a mini cherry on the handle). There was such a range of designs including Plankton, cows, flowers, penguins, foxes, fruits, Finn the Human from Adventure Time and more. On Valentine's Day we made Valentine's Cards and crochet hearts. Crocheting can be extremely frustrating to pick up but our members did an amazing job. It was an extremely enjoyable Valentine's Day event with some even better company! We are so excited for what the rest of our semester has store so stay tuned!

Hi there everyone! In light of current government guidelines and having been put back to stage 3, it is important that we take time to look after ourselves and our mental health. In this article, we will have a quick look at some tips that might help you to take care during this time.
Make sure to take a break from the news.
Information overload can be upsetting. Make an effort to switch off your screens once in a while or use your screen time in a more relaxing way such as playing a fun game with friends or watching cooking videos on Youtube or scrolling r/aww.
Take care of your body.
Meditate, practice good 'sleep hygiene', eat well-balanced meals, take deep breaths, go for a walk, get 15 minutes sunlight on your hands and face a day, make a homemade facemask (youtube and google will have loads of suggestions for this).
Make time to unwind.
Use a few minutes of your day to do something that you enjoy. This might be using some of the supplies from your craft box to practice from our last hangout, read a good book or even watch some Netflix!
Connect with others:
Talk to people you trust about your concerns and how you're feeling. It's a really tumultuous time for many of us and it's important that we support each other. Sometimes we don't always have much to say and at those times it might be nice to keep connected through games.
Some suggestions/recommendations are Among Us which is free on mobile, Overcooked 2 which has online compatibility or Stardew Valley which now supports online multiplayer.
It might be nice to join our UL Crafts Discord Channel where we chat and play games together.
This situation may be overwhelming, but coping with stress will make you, the people you care about, and your community stronger.
If you need anything, have any questions or suggestions please do not hesitate to get in touch with our committee.
We look forward to seeing you all at our hangouts <3
Lots of love! x

4:30pm
“Stay
inside!” Theresa Mannion said.
“Amber
weather alert!" warned MET Eireann.
“Why wasn’t
it red?!” groaned two disgruntled students carrying a slab of fosters between
them.
Meanwhile a heated discussion was happening in a Facebook group chat:
Chairperson:
We have to go ahead with the Table
Quiz, people are relying on us!
Equipment
Officer: But what about the storm? What if it’s as bad as they
say?
Treasurer:
HSO?
What do you think? Should we do it?
HSO:
Hmmm
Events
officer: Scholars is going to stay
open, it’s up to us to get people there.
PRO:
Guys like the insta there ya? @ulcrafts xox
Treasurer: Another soc just
cancelled their event… we could just reschedule
Chair:
Scholars is staying open. The Uni is open. It may be windy, it
might even be raining. But if I know one thing it’s that crafters are strong.
They’re resilient. And mostly, they’re really, really passionate
about table quizzes. And there’s no harm in a few pints either… We'll see if
the weather gets worse and make a decision then xx
6.00pm
Orange weather warning
who?
"I’m making a call", our chair announces. "The quiz WILL go ahead!"
“It’s happening,” the PRO posts on Instagram (@ulcrafts btw), “don’t forget your brollies.”
<!--[endif]-->
7.30pm
Still, no drop of rain has fallen.
And so, our
members, our friends, weary from fighting the elements, stumbled one after
another into Scholars - our Fosters scented respite from the cruel autumn.
“Welcome” our
president announces to a crowd of flushed cheeks and world-weary smiles, “I’m
glad you could all make it.”
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
<!--[endif]-->
8.00pm
The Table Quiz
Our loyal
subjects (plus Colin and Dave – in between pulling pints) were tested on a
range of questions; Where did Body and Soul take place? How
do you make a White Russian? How many toes does a dog have? (We still don't
know if this question was answer correctly). Life lessons, truly.
Eventually
came what we were all waiting for – the Shrek Round. Say what you like but the
real winners were the team that won this round, bringing home the entire set of
Shrek DVDs… Well, they didn't win that round. They got the least amount of
correct answers, so our Chairperson decided to give them the prize. Out
of pity. And to give them a chance to brush up on their Shrek knowledge. We all
know that more Shrek trivia is to come!
While we waited
for the answers to be corrected, our HSO, in attempt to keep from having to
work the mic, asked if anyone would like to take to the stage…

10.00pm
The Sing-Off
We had representatives
from lots of different clubs and socs at the quiz - Crafts (of course) Environment, Drama,
Vikings- you name it.. Eager to show off their team spirit it was the Vikings
who stepped up to perform a powerful rendition of I
Want It That Way (Jake Peralta edition of course).
It is said that you simply cannot perform in front of Drama Society members and not expect
them to try their hand. They wanted to show the Vikings who the real performers
were.
With pints in
hand, the group took a deep breath and began to sing arguably one of the more
controversial anthems of our generation: Come
out ye Black and Tans (This was NOT the Welshy edition). The whole bar
erupted, gleefully clapping and stamping along to the tune.
It’s not
clear who the winners of the sing-off were but it didn’t matter – the questions
had been corrected and we were ready to announce the winners.
10:30pm
The Winners
Before giving
out prizes, one more tune was necessary. A happy birthday to our talented
fabulous amazing inspiring drop-dead gorgeous chairwoman who was turning 21
that night. She was mortified, of course, (her words not mine) but thankful for the serenade.
And with
that, we were ready to announce the results. Taking home the prizes – Odeon
cinema vouchers and Craft kits- were the one and only Vikings. We're all VERY excited to see what they crochet!
With that,
there was just time for one for the road before we battle our way home - or
better, on the last bus to Costello’s, blissfully unaware of the storm everyone
was so worried about.
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
<!--[endif]-->
03.10.2019
And that was
the day. The day we braved the storm, the day two mighty groups sang for
bragging rights, the day minstrels will sing about for years to come.
See you all
for take two next semester…
Peace,
Craft
