A&L Goodbody Charity Students v Lecturers Soccer Match 

This year our annual charity soccer match is in support of the UNICEF - Gaza Emergency Appeal Fund. Finger food will be provided following the game and the funds raised from the charity raffle will go towards this worthy cause!

The UL Law Society's Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday the 16th of April 2023 in the Appellate Courtroom. 

Hustings for the 34th Session of the Society will take place and all members are encouraged to attend. Voting will open following the meeting and results for the election of the new committee will be announced 24 hours after this. 

Mooting is a vital skill to have as a law student. Many modules throughput you time in UL will have a mooting aspect to them. Our very own mooting officer, Sophie Moloney is back with the second instalment to our annual Mooting 101 workshop on Monday at 5pm in the Main Building Courtroom.

William Fry are hosting a LinkedIn Workshop! Come along to learn how to make your profile stand out from the crowd and the do's and don'ts of LinkedIn with members of the William Fry recruitment team. Following the session there will be an opportunity to get a free headshot for your profile photo, so don't forget to wear something suitable! There will also be tea, coffee and pastries provided.

Irish citizens are being asked to use their voice through their vote on two separate proposed amendments to the current text of Article 41 of the Constitution in the upcoming referendum on 8 March 2024 on care and the family.

The University of Limerick is hosting an information event on Wednesday the 21st of February at 6.30pm to provide factual information on these issues. The session will be chaired by retired Chief Justice Frank Clarke.

Our speakers are Dr Laura Cahillane, Associate Professor in the School of Law and expert in constitutional law, and Dr Carmel Hannan, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, an expert in Irish family dynamics and child development. The University of Limerick Law Society will also breakdown the voting process and registering to vote. After the talks, the floor will be opened for a Q&A session with the panel.

We are delighted to announce the return of our FE1 and Bar Information evening. This seminar will provide practical advice on effective preparation for professional law exams and on how to obtain a training contract. Our guest speaker, Val Corbett from LawSchool.ie,  will be providing key insights into FE-1 exam preparation in order to maximise your success! 

This talk is suitable for all year groups and will be a highly informative evening filled with tricks and tips, so make sure not to miss it!

The mixer is an opportunity for students to come and meet a member of Matheson’s Graduate Talent and Development Team along with some of their  trainees and ask any questions they have about Matheson and any of their programmes. Teas, coffees, pastries and scones will be provided! This informal event is a great chance to speak 1:1 with trainees and the graduate team about life at Matheson.

Dr. Eimear Spain will be hosting a workshop on legal research skills this Wednesday the 7th of February at 5pm in BM015 (Moot Court Room). This workshop will equip you with the necessary skills needed when researching a legal problem or attempting a moot problem question. All newcomers are welcome and encouraged to attend. This will especially help students who have a mooting element as part of certain modules. 

This event will also be held online for people who cannot attend. We will post a zoom link at 4.55pm on Wednesday to gain access. Hope to see you there!

Mooting is an essential skill to any law student. This can be a difficult ability to grasp, especially if you haven't taken part in one before. Our Mooting Officer - Sophie R.Moloney - is here to help! On Tuesday, the 21st of November in BM015 (main building) at 6pm, we will be hosting a mooting workshop. Gain some valuable insights on constructing compelling arguments and honing in on your advocacy skills.This event will be hugely beneficial to any students that have mooting assignments as part of their coursework.

The Law Society proudly presents a great night out at our masquerade themed Murder Mystery event. Join us for an evening of suspense, where you'll become a detective (or the murderer) for the night. Get ready to uncover the truth behind the mask and unleash your inner Sherlock Holmes at 7pm this Thursday the 26th at The Terrace (Sports Arena Bar).

When going for internships and traineeships, you may be asked to complete a Watson Glaser Test or a Psychometric Test. These tests are a specific type of critical thinking assessment designed to evaluate your ability to analyse and draw conclusions from complex information. 

We understand that these can be overwhelming, especially if you haven't done them before. Join us on Tuesday the 24th of October 5pm in S116 for a brief workshop to get the full disclosure on these tests and gain an insight into Arthur Cox's traineeship and internship programmes. There will also be pizza!

Tomorrow, we are hosting a Co-op and Erasmus talk in SG15 (Schumann Building) from 6 - 7 pm. A student-based panel will provide insights into their Co-op and Erasmus experiences. This talk will give you the chance to ask our older members for any tips and tricks they can share to maximise the benefits of both programs. The Intervarsity Law Summit 2023 will take place over three days and will feature various interactive events such as the only Intervarsity Careers Fair in Ireland and various mixer events where students and sponsoring guests can mingle. This year QUB and TUD will also be in attendance. As well as this, the weekend will feature the National Moot and Mock Trial Finals, the Intervarsity Gala Dinner, a panel discussion by an esteemed panel of invitees and a Keynote Presentations from Lady Hale and Mary Robinson. Throughout the weekend we will also be raising money for a chosen charity. ?

Celebrate Christmas with the UL Law Society!

There's no better way to ease exam stress and get in the Christmas spirit than joining us for Skitmas! On the night we will host a number of skit debates on Christmas-related topics like whether Rudolf should need a licence and if Santa should be found guilty of employment rights violations with the elves. There's no preparation needed, just show up on the night in merry spirits wearing a Christmas jumper.

We are delighted to announce that we will host our first conference of the year with special guest speakers from Give Us The Night. The conference will take place at 3 pm Tuesday 15 November in the library courtroom (floor 3). 

Give Us The Night have worked tirelessly to highlight the contribution of the night-time industry to culture, community and the economy in Ireland, and to raise the quality of nightlife to international standards. They have successfully influenced legislative change in Ireland as the government have recently announced that nightclub and pub opening hours are set to be extended in the new year. This is just one part of their mission.

We are hosting a LinkedIn workshop in conjunction with William Fry this coming Tuesday the 8th of November at 6pm in the library courtroom. 

Come along for tips on how to make your LinkedIn profile look its best and information on how to use the site to boost your future career. There will be a professional photographer in attendance who will be taking professional headshots free of charge after the workshop! This will be a great opportunity to network with your fellow members. 

This Tuesday, 1st November, we will be hosting our second workshop to our Mooting 101 Series. Any newcomers are welcome and we would encourage those who attended the first workshop to join us again Tuesday evening. This week we will be focusing on written submissions, specifically from different templates to research and authorities to use. As you go through your Law degree here in UL every Law student will be required to do a minimum of two compulsory moots, thus it is highly beneficial to gain these skills early as possible and be constantly up-skilling. We will also provide Printed Handouts as well as a QR code with useful resources to refer to when completing your moots. ???

First Year Mixer. Opportunity for first years to meet committee members and members of the society from other years.

Peer mentoring event in which First Year Law Students will be assigned a peer mentor from later years in Law.

Our Mná and the Law event took place on International Women's Day and was a huge success. We had fantastic speakers from UL, UCC, and from Enactus UL, specifically from their project Anytime of the Month. 

Topics such as the Harmful Communications and Related Offences Act 2020, Article 41.2 of the Constitution and the Period Products (Free Provisions) Bill were discussed by our panellists, after which a Q&A took place.

To take a break from the stress of exam season and celebrate the festive time of year, we at the Law Society are holding a Christmas party featuring funny skit debates in Hurler's Pub! Festive dress (i.e. Christmas jumpers) are a must, of course. Donations will also be collected for Limerick Suicide Watch. Let's get the pints and celebrations flowing!!

To help get everyone in the mood for Halloween and take our minds a little off mid-terms, interviews etc., the University of Limerick Law Society has decided to host a private screening of 2018's blockbuster hit 'Halloween' in the lecture hall FB0428. We feel a communal break from study helps relax everyone's mindset and a bit of respite is required in these busy weeks. Free snacks and popcorn are also provided as a mandatory horror movie staple. Time to get spooky!

The UL Law Society together with the UL School of Law will host a Careers Networking Evening on Tuesday 15th of October from 6pm to 8pm in the Foundation Building.

The objective of this event is to bring students and graduate recruiters together in a professional and friendly environment. This event is organised with specifically Law Plus, Law & Accounting and LLM students who are seeking graduate and internship opportunities in mind.

Catering will be provided on the evening and so will light refreshments. Furthermore there will also be professional headshots taken on the evening.

It is essential for those seeking coop and graduate opportunities to take advantage of this event.

It is advised that attendees come in business casual dress.

Law Society Mixer - One of our Society's main objectives is to build a legal community on campus and with so few lecture hours it is difficult to get to know people. So we will be hosting your first class night out next Wednesday 25 September in the Hurler's. This will have an informal atmosphere, allowing you to get to know your coursemates outside of the lecture theater.

PIZZA PARTY - After an exhausting 2 hour lecture, LawSoc will be there to to give you a pickemeup with PIZZA!  Meet committee members and get to know your class reps! Membership will also be collected.

PEER MENTORING! It's always good to have an older buddy to ask for advice, so to kick off first year week we are having our annual peer mentoring event. Come along and be matched up with a wise older law student who can help you out during the year! Informal reception to follow in The Scholars!
