Semester 1 Wrap Up

Posted 18th Dec 2022
Author CAITLIN EARLE (Public Relations Officer)

Well, Semester 1 is over! It’s been an action packed 4 months. So let’s take a look back on what the Games Society got up to in Semester 1 of 2022/23.

Wed off the year with an AGM to pick our hard working committee members. We had a brilliant turnout of members both new and old.

With committee and members in tow, we resumed our weekly events. We had Tabletop Night, Consoles Day, and our Dungeons and Dragons 101 Workshops. There was so much to do, and something for every type of gamer to enjoy!

In October, we hosted a board game night in association with Campus Life Services. We had a great time, and gained a few new members along the way.

Towards the end of october, we had the Feminist Society x Games Society collaboration. We had a movie and game night where we watched The Help (along with some pizza)!

Halloween saw a spooky edition of Tabletop Night, where we dressed up in costumes and had a great time.

The start of November brought us our Pub Quiz, which we did with the help of the Fencing Society and the Computer Society. We had a massive turnout, and it was a great night for all involved.

Following that, we had our first GSoc trip of the year, where we went to Dungeons and Donuts in Galway. We also got to wander around the beautiful Christmas markets in Eyre Square. It was a great first trip of many!

To wrap off the semester and have a bit of fun before exams, GSoc went paintballing! We had a great few hours of intense competition, and more than a few cheeky headshots.

That’s a wrap on the semester! We hope everyone enjoyed Semester 1, and we can’t wait to see everyone back in Semester 2, where we have many great events planned!

Happy Holidays!

I hope you've enjoyed your summers, cause it's time for another year with us at UL!

Hey everyone and welcome back, we're looking forward to seeing everyone on campus again, and hopefully some fresh faces as well. Membership applications are open again, so do remember to sign up for the rest of the year: https://ulwolves.ie/society/games

Weekly events are going to be in a state of flux due to the late arrivals of the first years, for the latest updates on times and venues come join our Discord server:

What is certain though, is that we are going to be at the C&S Fair next Wednesday from 4:00pm! The Fair is being held at the UL Sport Arena, and in there most of the clubs and societies are gonna have stalls to show off what they're all about, us included! It's a great place to say hi to us, ask any questions and meet up with returning members and other like-minded people. If you are a new student, particularly an international, we definitely recommend you visit!

If you've any questions don't be afraid to message someone on committee, they'll do their best to answer! Once again, thank you for sticking with us, and we look forward to seeing everyone soon!

We encourage all members to attend the meeting, and invite those participating in our online games to consider becoming a member as well!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the next EGM!

All online activities for the Games Society happen at our Discord server, you don't need to be a member to join so feel free to hop in to participate in all GSoc Online events!
LINK: https://discord.gg/3u9FamA

This week's events will occur from 7 PM on Tuesday, October 6th, but Among Us may become a recurring event given enough interest!

If you're familiar with Pictionary then Skribbl is exactly just that, a guess-the-picture game done through https://skribbl.io/ completely free of charge!

On the other hand, Among Us has blown up in recent weeks as a hit deception/survival game, available for FREE on mobile devices.
Among Us revolves around completing tasks and ejecting impostors as crewmates, or conspiring to murder/eject crewmates as the impostors, whichever group can accomplish their goals first wins!
