Roller skating Drama Society trip, on the 9th November! We will be roller skating from 7:00pm - 9:00pm.

If you aren't organising your own transport, join us at the 310 Student Life bus stop at 6:00pm.

UL Drama Soc's first Quiz Night of the year! We are so excited for another night full of trivia, cool prizes and fun! 

Doors open at 7:30 pm. The quiz will start at 8 pm sharp, so be sure to get there on time! It costs 5 euro per person and 20 euro for a team of four.

With no workshop this week, although we won't be meeting as usual in the Swift, you still have a chance to catch up with all your Drama Soc friends during our Bowling Trip this Tuesday, the 14th. We will be heading down to Arena 5 to test our skills at the lanes. The price for 30 minutes of bowling for a student is €5, so make sure to bring your Student ID. We will meet beforehand at the Stables bus stop 6:15PM and take the bus to the Arena, aiming to be there from 7PM to 8PM. See you there!

Day trip organised in collaboration with UL Musical Theatre Society to see The Lion King musical in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin on January 25th 2022. A specially-chartered bus will convey society members to and from the venue on the day, and tickets have been pre-booked by committee members. 

UL Drama's annual Showcase, where all members of the society are welcome to get up on stage and perform any piece they'd like, whether it's acting, musiic, poetry, or dance.

We are delighted to announce that our workshop this week will be led by the talented Ciarda Tobin! Ciarda came from a youth theatre background and began working with Fresh Film Festival in 2001, working her way up to Festival Manager. Ciarda works to promote the work of young filmakers and is an accomplished director herself. You don't want to miss this workshop! See you in the Jonathan Swift this Wednesday at 8 :)

Our weekly writers group continues this week, under the management of your newly appointed Writers Group Leader, Jason Hannan! New members are more than welcome, the group only returned last week so you haven't missed out on much :) These workshops focus on writing for the stage and they've been known to play a sneaky game of Cards Against Humanity to get the creative juices flowing.. If this sounds like your thing, see you in SU room 2 at 7 on Tuesday!!

This Tuesday brings the welcome return of our Writers Workshop in Room 2 of the SU. If you have an interest in script writing and a way with words we would love for you to jon us! The committee position of Writers Group Leader is currently vacant, so make sure to pop along Tuesday if you want a say in deciding your new group leader for this semester.

After the EGM we will have a workshop with our special guest Jack McKenna, an acting graduate of Arts Educational London. Jack is coming over from London to teach us a thing or two about character development. Character development is necessary for any role you take on so this is a vital workshop for any aspiring actor.

Ever thought about jumping on board the Drama Soc Committee? Well now's your chance! We have a number of open positions this semester, these are Treasurer*, Vice Treasurer, PRO, Health and Safety Officer, Assistant Arts Director, Writers Group Leader and OCM. 

(In order to run for any of these positions you must hust. You just have to stand up and tell everyone why you're the person for the job).

The EGM will be followed by our usual workshop at 7pm!

Day: Wednesday (Week 3)

Time: EGM - 6.30pm 

*In order to run for the role of treasurer you must have already been Vice Treasurer of Drama Soc and/or been treasurer of another club or society.

We will start back our usual Wednesday evening workshops with a focus on Monologue Techniques. This workshop will be lead by our own queen of monologues, Courtney McKeown. Monologue techniques are also very useful for audition settings so you do not want to miss this!

This semester Drama Soc is launching its series of Technical Worskshops, for our members who prefer the other aspects of theatre rather than being on stage. These workshops will take place on Tuesday evenings, every second week (on even weeks only), and will cover everything from set building and props, to lighting and directing. 

The first of these will be a Directing workshop by the ever-talented Miss Ray Liathróid. Ray is a regular director for the society (and has even directed her own play, Fíoch, with us last year) so we can't wait to get her insight into directing!

As you may have heard, this semester Drama Soc's production will be PIGTOWN a play that depicts Limerick City through the 1900s, written by Limerick playwright Mike Finn. We will have a guest director on board for this production, another Limerick man, Tony Cusack. This is a really fantastic play with a range of roles. Auditions will be held Monday of Week 2 for those interested. (Call backs for this production will be held on Wednesday of Week 2, after the workshop).

This Thursday (Jan 26th), we are holding auditions for a short film written and produced shot by UL Journalism students for the Smarter Travel Multimedia Awards. This is a great opportunity to get some film acting experience, so if you're up for it make sure to come along!

For one night only we are reprising STIGMA so that we can film it.

With exams and assignments coming up at the end of the semester, we've decided instead of having our usual workshop to go see a play in town to give everyone an evening off to relax, and to celebrate what's been an amazing semseter for Drama Soc, we really couldn't have done it without any of you!
We ll be getting the 304 bus into town from the Stables bus stop at 6.15, after which we'll make our way to the Locke Bar to enjoy 3 short plays put on by Toch Players, who are a drama group based in Limerick each called The Lover, The Man with the Flower in His Mouth & I Love to Live. Tickets will be 10 euro payed on the door which is why we're gonna try get there a bit early.
If you can't make it, we've a fun workshop planned for Week 12 so there's that to look forward to as well!

All proceeds from this event will be donated to Pieta House & Corbett Suicide Prevention Limerick.

A meeting for all of the drama soc budding writers!

New members always welcome :)

This week, our workshop will be lead by the wonderful Ciarda Tobin (the fact that she is the festival manager of Fresh Film Festival is just one of her many accolades). The workshop will be at the usual time of 7pm-8pm, in the Jonathan Swift Theatre. We are delighted that Ciarda is able to come and join us for our workshop this week :)

After this workshop there will be a planning meeting for our London trip in January! It is imperative that anyone wishing to go on this trip attend this meeting. Failure to attend this meeting will result in you not being chosen for this trip! So if you're interested, stick around for the meeting to find out what it's all about.

DramaSoc are coming at you with ANOTHER set of auditions!

This Tuesday, we will be auditioning for our SoUL Fest event in collaboration with the UL Arts Department!

This event will be directed by professional director Ann Blake and written by our own Ray Bawle and Patricia Moriarty (of the UL Arts Dept).

Auditions are as follows:

Auditions are strictly for Drama Society members, but non-members can register at the auditions (membership €5).

UL Drama's first workshop of the semster will be taking place on Wednesday of Week 02 (September 14th) at 7pm in the Swift. As part of this workshop we'll be doing an introduction to Drama to give people a feel for what we do and get to know each other. Also some of our members will be performing an excerpt from one of last semester's productions, "The Waitress". We'll also have a quick EGM to elect our brand new First Year Rep! We hope to see you all there!

So as the semster comes to a close, Drama Soc will be hosting it's Anual General Meeting to elect next semesters committee and talk about our Constitution. Every registered Drama Soc member has a vote, so make sure to come along to see Democracy in action! 

And incase that isnt appealing enough, we will also be hosting our own mini Oscars, the 2016 Drama Awards! Awards will be given out to several members in recognition of their increible talent during this past years productions (2015/16). Each member will get a vote in these awards sometime next week, so make sure to a) Go to both productions next Week, and b) Turn up at the awards to see who wins!
