Hello everyone! As promised, we are releasing the date of our Annual General Meeting 2020!

The meeting is planned to take place on the 1st of October 2020 via Zoom call.

All members of the society will receive an invite link via email before the event, and they will receive a copy of the agenda for the night so that you can read it prior to coming along!

The meeting will cover two main topics:

1. The election of our new committee for the 2020/21 academic year

Every society will have a committee of student volunteers who fulfill different roles to help run a society. These students are members of the society who are elected to the committee by the rest of the members. At this meeting YOU will have the opportunity to get involved and join our committee!

We are looking to fill the following positions:

1x Treasurer
2x Health and Safety Officers 
3x Events Officers 
2x Trips Officers 
2x Public Relations Officers 

If you would like to run for any of these positions, make sure you have paid your membership fee and you will receive a copy of the AGM agenda prior to the AGM meeting with instructions on how the elections will run during the meeting! We can't recommend joining the committee enough, it is so rewarding and so much fun and there is a job for everyone!

2. Our upcoming events schedule reveals

We are going to be releasing some of our upcoming events at this meeting. You will be able to find out about our plans for the semester, where we're going to go on our trips, and much, much more! Although it won't be a full event schedule, as we don't have our trips and events officers elected yet, we have planned some events to kick-start the year ahead of the election of our events and trips teams who will work on the rest of this year's events!

It's going to be a night to remember, and we can't wait to meet you all! We hope you're excited!

Dublin Day & Weekend Trip Sign Up - TUESDAY FEB 11th 6-7PM

On Wednesday the 5th of February we are holding our EGM for the semester in KBG12. At the EGM we will be releasing our full schedule of events and trips for the semester, electing new committee members, and eating free pizza! Committee positions available are: 2x trips officers 3x events officers 2x public relations officers 2x health and safety officers You can run for any of these positions if you want to get involved with the society too! After the election, we will be taking signups for our St. Patricks Day Trip on the 17th of March 2020 where we will go to Dublin City for the parade! Don't worry - it is a national holiday so you won't miss classes! Trip costs only €15 which is the base cost of our coaches! You also get one of our money-can't-buy limited edition t-shirts for absolutely nothing - only obtainable by signing up to our St. Patrick's Day trip!

This Monday we're holding a table quiz to fundraise for the society!

Entry is €10 for a team of 4! Free finger food on the night and great prizes to be won!

Don't worry if you don't have a team of 4, come along and we will put you in a team!

This Tuesday from 6pm-7pm you can sign up to our Dublin Day OR Weekend Trip! The trip will take you to Dublin on Saturday 15th of February where you can tour the capital of Ireland and see all of the sights. We've also included a tour of the Guinness Storehouse! The weekend trip will allow you to stay in a local hostel that night (arranged by us) and we will experience what Dublin has to offer during the night, and the day after (Sunday 16th) we will head out on a hike around the local countryside for some scenic views before returning home. Cost of this trip is €35 for the day trip and €70 for the weekend trip. Unlimited spaces for the day trip, limited spaces for the weekend trip, first come, first serve. We only have so many beds in our hostel booking!

Sign Ups being taken for Our Day Trip to the Beautiful Dingle Peninsula in Kerry. Trip is Saturday February 1st - Cost is €15.

Let's get festive! As it's our last official college week before the winter holidays it's time to get cozy and do what we all do best at this time of the year - head to Penney's and buy a rotten jumper we will never wear again just because it's perfect for the festive season!

This week continues our Book Club!  It is a great way to meet new people and read some great books! This week we will be discussing our first book, Angela’s Ashes, and announcing the second one we will read. Couldn’t make the last meeting but still want to join?  Feel free to come along! Everyone is welcome J Book Club takes place on Wednesday from 6-8 in the Kemmy Business School on the couches around KBG15.

Our most popular theme, this week is Country Colors Come sporting your country colors with facepaints, jerseys or whatever you can find! Which country will have the best supporters? We will find out on Friday! Doors open at 9pm and its €5 after 10:45. Strictly over 18's.

This exciting new event is a showcase of some elements of Irish culture. Whether you just arrived in Ireland or have lived here all your life, this is a fun and exciting event guaranteed to be great craic! It will feature a GAA Hurling match screening, an Irish Céilí dance workshop, and more! This event will be held in the UL Sports Bar from 7-10pm and is a great, interactive way to learn more about Ireland.

We will be having a Table Quiz on Wednesday! Gather up some friends and show us what you know, for a chance to win some FANTASTIC PRIZES. A wide variety of topics will be covered, so there's sure to be something for everyone! It will be a great opportunity to meet and compete with fellow students, so be sure not to miss it! Teams will consist of 3-5 people and can be arranged on the night. It will take place in the UL Sports Bar from 8-10pm. An entry of €2 will apply and finger food will be provided.

Tales and Treats is an event in which we bring together some of Ireland's brightest Poets and Singers to perform just for you in a unique environment.....and then there is the CAKE!! As you ascend the stairs be prepared to be immersed in the magic of the Blanket Fort where you will find a world of poetry and song. The event will take place from 7-9pm and is hands down one of our best events of the semester.

Day one of International Week is our International Food Fair! Come try foods from all over the world cooked by our own International Society chefs! We are also looking for chefs! If you are interested please contact eventsulinternationalsociety@gmail.com

International Society presents our Black and White TGIF! What is a Black and White theme you may ask? Well its just what it says, you wear black and/or white clothing! Make sure you bring your new membership cards :) Doors open at 9pm and its 5 Euro after 10:45. Strictly over 18's.

Come learn about different events, activities, and trips that will take place throughout the semester. It is also a great opportunity to learn more about and get involved in the society in a variety of ways!

On Tuesday of week 3, we will be holding our AGM in KBG12 at 6:30pm! Here we will be voting in new committee members and doing sign ups for trips such as the Aran Islands ! Here you will also have the opportunity to sign up for our Come Dine with me event. We hope to see you all there !

On Wednesday, April 5^th (week 11) we will be co-hosting a Holi celebration with the PSU!  Holi is an Indian Festival in commemoration of the divine love of Goddess Radha for Lord Krishna celebrated with colors, dance, and song! There will be music, food, and paint for you to enjoy J We request that you all were white/ light colored clothing so the paint will stand out more (it will wash out).  Everyone is encouraged to come to this wonderful, FREE event next Wednesday from 5-7pm on the fields between the Foundation Building and the Computer Science Building.
