I have written a play, can you produce it?
---
There are two ways for you to submit scripts to us! First, is in our open call for submissions which happen at least once a year. If chosen, we would perform your play as part of our semesterly production. However, unless you also sign up to direct, and are given that role, you lose all creative control over how your script is interpreted (for this Drama Soc performance). Your other option is: to submit your script to the committee under the “Produced by Drama Soc” clause. More details on this clause are available in our constitution.
Do I need to be a current UL Student?
No! We offer a variety of memberships, including those for alumni AND non-UL students. These tend to cost more per membership, as seen above.
What does my membership cost?
We offer three membership types: Student Membership, Alumni and Staff, and Associates. They are priced as follows: Student Membership: €5 Alumni and Staff: €10 Associates: €10
Why should I join?
As a society, we hold a huge number of events which would all be available to you! We hold up to 3 workshops a week, covering all aspects of theatre and performance. You can get reduced prices on theatre trips with the society, and free events that we cover in their entirety. We also hold a semesterly production, which you can audition for and act on stage, or work with our excellent backstage and tech crew. We hold other fundraising and arts based events throughout the semester too! There really is something for everyone!
What Trips and Events do you do?
There is always something to do here at Drama Soc! We run at least one event every week! With our writers group, monday masterclasses and wednesday workshops there is something for everyone. On top of that we host mixers, bowling trips and table quizzes throughout the semester! To top it off we love to engage in both local and national theatre, we love a trip to anywhere from the Limetree in Limerick to the Abbey Theatre in Dublin! All information about any trip or event can be found on our wolves page and our social media!
What workshops do you offer?
We run up to 3 workshops a week: Writers Group (Mondays at 6pm) – Our weekly writing workshops, where we teach you a variety of techniques, games and formats to start you on your writing journey, or to uplift your craft. Monday Masterclasses (Mondays at 7pm) – Our tech and backstage workshops, where we go into details about everything that goes on behind the scenes of a production, from costumes and lighting to directing and stage management. Wednesday Workshops (Wednesdays at 7pm) – These are our acting workshops, and they are beginner friendly and a favourite of our members. They’re the longest running workshop type in our society and they help us to gain confidence on the stage and perform!
I don't like to act; can I still join?
Yes!!! We are very proud of our tech and backstage crew here at Drama Society, and there are so many opportunities for you to get involved that do not necessitate taking to the stage! Our Monday Masterclasses and Writers Group may be more your speed OR you could join our committee and take on a more organisational role in the society.
I'm new to theatre; can I still join?
Yes, please do!!! All of our events and workshops are beginner-friendly and include activities for all levels of experience!

Side note: if you want to come along to do some DIY but don't feel like socialising, don't worry, we totally get you. Noise-cancelling headphones and other sensory tools are welcomed and encouraged!

Here at UL Drama Society, everyone has one crucial common interest; we all love theatre in one way, shape or form!
UL Drama Soc is open to theatre enthusiasts of all levels, from veteran stage school students, to those who've never been within 20 feet of a stage and want to give it a go. Here at Drama Soc, EVERYONE is welcome – no exceptions!
Performing is, of course, a huge part of Drama Soc. Each year we run a number of productions, ranging from comedy sketches to full-length dramas, alongside our weekly acting workshops!
If you’re not one for the limelight, fear not! We encourage members to cultivate their own unique talents and explore all aspects of theatre. Be it directing, scriptwriting, set design, stage management or costumes and hair & makeup... we embrace it all! Our Monday Masterclasses enable us to help our members to finesse their off-stage skills.
Interested in writing plays? We've got something for you too! Out weekly Writers Group workshops take a fun and engaging approach to getting your ideas to the page, with peer to peer support and activities galore to kill that pesky writers block.
Trips and events are a key aspect of Drama Soc - it has to be said: our wrap parties are pretty legendary! Drama Soc go on regular theatre trips, supporting local talent in venues such as the Belltable and the Lime Tree Theatre. We also run several events throughout the year, including table quizzes, showcases, and our Drama Galas.
Over time we’ve worked hard to build up our society to enhance the experience for our members. UL Drama Soc is more than just a society – it's a family. When you look back on your time with us, you may not remember the lines you spent hours learning, but you won’t forget the memories you made with life-long friends!
