Now more than ever, the politics around borders and migrants is of supreme importance. This Thursday will be a slightly different form of meeting, we will be doing an open discussion! This means we'll sit down and discuss a topic, encouraging all members to contribute and ask questions! This week's topic will be "can consumer culture last?"
This is not a structured debate but rather an informal discussion on the pressing issues of climate change and how our culture of consumption and production affect it.
Come along and discuss the topic - every contribution is worthwhile, whether you're an expert or you know nothing this meeting is open to all!!

Tomorrow evening at 6pm in KBG11 we will be having our weekly meeting. Niall Gannon will be giving a talk on the life and works of Russian Revolutionary and Marxist theoretician Nikolai Bukharin. Bukharin is a somewhat unknown figure amongst the broader left, which is unfortunate as he played a major role in the immediate post-revolutionary society of Russia. He also held quite a bit of power after Lenin’s death. Hopefully my talk will help to give you all a better understanding of Bukharin’s place amongst the Bolsheviks, and also his interesting and important contributions to Marxist theory.

Next Thursday at 6pm, UL PBP member Ken Mooney will be giving a talk on Capitalism and Alienation (aka. Why Work Sucks?). ????????
In a capitalist society, the worker's alienation from their humanity occurs because the worker can express labour—a fundamental social aspect of personal individuality—only through a private system of industrial production in which each worker is an instrument: i.e., a thing, not a person.
This event is open to all - be it those experienced with Marx's work and those new to his theories!
