Despite the change in husts and awards ceremony, UL Rowing managed to secure the win for their Nearly Naked Calander at the C&S Awards.  Celebrations were held over Zoom as the club and committee commended the hard work of the participants and UL PhotoSoc for their major role.

HUGE Thank you to Paul, Karen, and Aisling for their support and all clubs who participated.

NUI Galway International Zoom Regatta

Results from the International Zoom Regatta hosted by Nui Galway on the 26/04/2020. It was great to be able to get in a bit of racing and see where we stand. Well done to all our athletes - your hard work has been paying off and it showed. We are still such a young club and the majority of our athletes are only on their 2nd/3rd year of rowing - so to be able to show up and lay it down and perform so well is incredible. Especially well done to the 7 novices who held their own in Club and Inter categories.

As well as success from Inter and Senior crews,  Women's captain Ava Kelly couldn't keep herself off the podium and placed 2nd in Senior Women's times.  As a second-year novice racing against athletes from America and France that have placed at world championships, Ava is an example of the brilliant potential Irish and UL athletes have.

PJ Corcoran and Pearse Burke are two first-year UL Students that just picked up their oars in September, they both competed at intermediate level and their crew placed second.  The club men's crew was also the only full novice squad competing for the day,  once again highlighting the brilliant Novice Programme UL has to offer.

Massive thank you to our own coaches Frank Nugent, James Mangan, Brian O’Shaughnessy, and Conor Igoe for pushing the athletes and creating a plan that has maximized the development of our squad and club as a whole. Thank you to Ciro Prisco, Fearghal O’Callaghan, and all at Nuig for putting together a great event.

This coming season sets to be an interesting and exciting one as ULRC aims to compete across the pond at the London Metropolitan Regatta in June.  With the combination of the many new members who joined us in September, novices and rowers with international experience, the future of ULRC is looking bright.

You might think that rowing is not for you or maybe you feel you wouldn’t like rowing as a competitive sport, but rest assured there is something for everyone in ULRC.

Why not give coxing a try? What is coxing? Simply someone who is small, light and mighty who enjoys shouting and motivating others while steering a boat towards success.

If you are or know of anyone who would like to Cox for ULRC (no experience required) be sure to drop us a message at irow.ul@gmail.com or check us out on Facebook @ulrowing.

What a great weekend for ULRC, both at home and abroad! At the Cork City Regatta ULRC took home first place in the Men's Senior Quad event in a time of 6 minutes 25 seconds. It was a very close finish with the UL boat doing well to beat the Skibbereen boat to the line. The crew was a composite of two athletes from ULRC - David Quinlan and Alan Prendergast - and two athletes from Castleconnell RC - Adrian Sheehan and Eoghan Whittle. In the Men's Double Scull event, the crew of David Quinlan and Alan Prendergast again did ULRC proud by finishing in third position. It was another close finish with only 6 seconds separating first and third place. In France at the World Cup II event, ULRC member Mark O'Donovan finished first in the C final of the Men's Lightweight Scull. This was a great achievement for Mark who only began training again in his scull two weeks before the event when it was announced that the partner he had been training with in the pair was unable to attend the event. Marks perseverance, despite the knock back before such a big event, was truly amazing and his success was well deserved. ULRC wishes to congratulate all its athletes and coaches on their achievements, and wishes them further success in the future as we build towards the Irish Championships.

The World Rowing Cup II is taking place on Lake Aiguebelette in France from the 19th to the 22nd June. Mark O'Donovan - a current University of Limerick Rowing Club member - is competing in the Mens Lightweight Scull event. It is a fantastic achievement for Mark to be representing Ireland at the event. It is a true reflection of his hard work and dedication. It is also a great honor for ULRC to have a club member competing at such a high standard. ULRC wishes Mark the very best of luck in the competition.
