UL Ninjas Update!

Hey all! We just wanted to update all of you about what has been happening here at Ninjas HQ and about Ultimate in Limerick.

So, as you all know, we haven’t been able to start any kind of training so far this year. But hope is not lost! We are hoping to get together after the current level 5 restrictions if we are able to do so, and if not, we hope to see you again in the new year. At the moment, everything is very up in the air so as soon as we know that we can get back to training and playing some spicy ultimate, we’ll let you know. Just keep an eye on our socials!

In other news, as some of you might know, PELT Ultimate, the local club frisbee team here in Limerick, has launched their Movember campaign. Movember is a great cause that is dear to our hearts here in Limerick as we lost one of our fellow PELT teammates recently. Head over to @PeltUltimate to check out all the stuff the guys and gals are doing over there to promote Movember. Try and spot a few of our Ninjas with their dodgy staches!

In Global News, Limerick and specifically UL have been chosen to be the hosts of the World Under 24 Ultimate Championships in July 2021! This will be a massive festival of Ultimate that the whole community is getting behind to support. A review of the current climate in regard to Covid and the running of the event is set to take place before the new year and any update on if the event goes ahead will be on the various Irish Ultimate socials.

All in all, we just wanted to update everyone on the goings-on in the club. We hope each and every one of you is staying safe and healthy and we can’t wait to meet everyone, old and new, as soon as we can safely do so. Up UL and especially up frisbee!

On February 15th/16th, the Ultimate Frisbee Club hosted Indoor IVs and we sent 3 teams. Our 1st team stormed through the weekend without a single defeat and took the top spot in a very competitive final against old rivals, DCU Ultimate. Well done to 1st Year Student Ben Martin for being awarded MVP of the Final.  Our 2nd team, made up primarily of 2nd year players, showed great determination and finished in 11th place.  Our 3rd team, which featured a lot of our new recruits from the season with some more experienced leaders finished in 16th place.

This marks the end of the Indoor season, for now we are preparing for our Outdoor Tournaments, first up, The Award Winning event, The Siege of Limerick.

Men's and Women's teams train Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-8pm on the Maguires 4G Astro Pitches so if you're interested in trying out Ultimate Frisbee, be sure to call down.

The Siege of Limerick

The UL Ultimate Frisbee Club are running their annual event, The Siege of Limerick, on the weekend of the 7th/8th of March on the University of Limerick North Campus pitches. This is the biggest outdoor ultimate frisbee tournament in Ireland, bringing together 32 teams and nearly 500 participants from all over Ireland, Europe and even further afield. The tournament showcases the inclusive sport that is ultimate frisbee, a sport unlike others, with it's high intensity and competitive edge but also emphasis on sportmanship, as displayed by the sports self officiated nature. We are also running a schools ultimate day on Friday March 6th on the North Campus GAA pitch from 12-3pm, to raise awareness among young people about the importance of sport, health, fitness and well being. This will involve 2 Limerick secondary schools, Castletroy College and Crescent Comp. We hope to promote ultimate frisbee more in these schools as we are involved in ongoing coaching programs with them. Support the UL Ultimate Frisbee club and come out to this spectacular event - we promise you won't be disappointed! A great day out for friends, family, kids and anyone interested in sport."
