Meeting at the boathouse at 11:30am for a level 2 assessment, on the water for 12pm. Shoes are mandatory, you will be sent home without old shoes to wear on the water.

Water development day, wheather you've just got your level 2, a bit rusty or experienced and just looking to get in some more practice. 

All you need is a pair of togs, old shoes and a towel to change with

Redbull and Paint!

We will be hosting Redbull and Paint again this year! For anyone who missed this super fun event last year, it’s a fun social event where members both new and old can get to know each other while creating kayak themed artistic masterpieces!

Thursday the 26th of September @ 7pm, we are hosting a Red Bull and Paint Night in @thescholarsclub !

During the night, we are going to be directed in a fun painting challenge, with plenty of Red Bull on hand for everyone!

The Night will cost €6 per person and this event is open to absolutely everyone, so bring your friends, family, and more!

This session is open to female members of the club both new and old, we will be paddling a section of the River Shannon which is located right behind the Boathouse and is known as 'Outback'. This is a chance to get out into the fresh air before your lectures, meet and socialize with other girls in the club.

And we’re off! Back to Wales for our annual whitewater training trip. This trip will be an opportunity for our intermediate and advanced paddlers to sharpen up their own personal skills, whether that’s river running and leading or catching eddies or setting safety.. we will go over it all.

With the support of professional instructors this week will push our paddlers to the next level, on both familiar and new whitewater.

This trip will set us up for the beginning of a great year of paddling and club development :) !!

This trip is definitely not one too miss, running from the 6-8th of October the weekend will be packed full of kayaking, so ailing and just general fun.

The greatly anticipated 2022 Irish Kayaking Intervarsity’s are finally upon us, taking place in Dublin. The Annual Kayaking Intervarsities is a chance for university paddlers from around the country to compete, socialize and make new friends. This is an event suited to kayakers of all levels and abilities and should not be missed! 

Weekend Timetable

Friday: Whitewater event begins at 7am, followed by freestyle at 1. Social Night begins at 8:30

Saturday: BoaterX event begins at 7, followed by long distance races at 1. Social Night beginning at 8:30 again.

Sunday: Polo matches start at 8, followed by the awards ceremony and prize giving at 3.

While you may not be competing in all events support is welcome and appreciated.

The Annual General Meeting which will be used to vote on the next committee and any changes to the club constitution.

Friday Whitewater Castleconnel Lap - Level 3 certificates required

Solid opportunity to work on your level 3 skills 

Whitewater session on Castleconnell with a level 3 instructor from Kilfinane OETC. Working on everything from basic whitewater confidence and skills to improving skills and working on leading.

Wales 2023

Kicking off the start of a new year of paddling, the Winter trip is back! We will be traveling to Wales with paddlers of all levels, a perfect opportunity to work on your personal paddling skills and set new goals for the year as well as enjoy the last week of the Christmas break before college kicks off again.

Logistics:

We will be departing Limerick together in the early hours of Sunday, the 15th of January. We will then be traveling all day by car and ferry to the Llangollen Hostel, where we will be staying for the duration of the trip.

We will be paddling on a variety of rivers throughout the week, where paddlers will be able to work on their Whitewater skills and benefit from the knowledge and skills of local professional instructors who will coach us throughout our trip. 

Sunday the 22nd of January we will return by ferry to Ireland.

Cost:

The cost of the trip is 285 euros. The trip should be paid in full prior to the trip. Payments can be made to the club bank account by bank transfer, , details of which can be found here. Make sure to leave a reference note with your name and Kerry in it, e.g. JohnSmithKerry. Any problems with payment, please talk with a member of the committee.

Kerry New Years 2022

To bring in the new year, we are returning to Kerry, a club tradition that we haven't seen in a few years. Kerry is the perfect time to meet and network with members of other College Kayak Clubs around Ireland and share our love of Kayaking.

Logistics:

Travel by yourself to Kenmare on Thursday, the 29th of December, address of the house is  13 Kenmare Bay Hotel Holiday Homes, Gortamullin, Kenmare, Co. Kerry. V93H516.
We do not have access to the house until 16:00.

What's included?

This trip will involve running slightly more challenging rivers and developing the skills of our members. This trip will be open to beginners, intermediates and advanced members alike.

Advanced Trip to the river Deel. Meeting at the bh at 12, pre-approved members only.

This is a level 2 skills session NOT an assessment. We will go through the different skills required for completing a level 2 assessment. A good understanding of some of basic strokes would be an advantage so we can focus on aspects you may not be as familiar with

vROOM vROOM, its time to do the newport river, inter/advanced paddlers only                                             

Flatwater session at 2pm on outback. Only sign up if you have permission from trip leader. Roll required due to wind.

Stroke technique workshop with long distance paddler Simon Grennell taking place this Sunday at 9am!

This workshop is open to everyone with an emphasis on those looking to improve their paddling technique for long distance training at intervarsities!

A paddle machine will be there on the day (like a rowing machine). Simon will go through the tricks to gaining speed without burning excess energy and common mistakes. This will be beneficial for everybody!

Tuam competition. This is the second part to the Irish freestyle championships. You must have a good roll. Meeting at the boathouse at 8:30.

Heading to the King's River in Kilkenny for a change of scenery this Saturday, November 27th. Meeting bright and early at the UL Boathouse at 7am to pack gear. Expecting to be back in Limerick before 6pm all going well.

Heading to the King's River in Kilkenny for a change of scenery this Saturday, November 27th. Meeting bright and early at the UL Boathouse at 7am to pack gear. Expecting to be back in Limerick before 6pm all going well. 

It's expected to be a bit on the colder side of things, so if you have extra thermals or under layers bring them along!

Hey Guys! Boathouse is in a bit of a state there since Varsities which is to be expected, good on everyone for getting out training! Boathouse clean up is taking place on Monday the 24th of February, starting at 19.30. There will be a skip there for all old broken gear gone beyond heir use. We will have stations for fixing Spraydecks and wetsuits and broken boats. Don't worry if you haven't done any of these things before there will be people there who know what they are at and will be able to teach! the more people we have the easier and quicker we will be, Make sure to come down and give a hand, also there will be Pizza afterwards for those who help out! See you there!

As part of our annual winter trip, this year we are heading to the land of the dragons, Wales !. This trip aims to progress our beginner and intermediate paddlers towards their Level 3 skills award. The trip will run from the 12th - 19th of January 2020.  Look at our Forum for more information or email ulkayak@gmail.com.                                                                         

Pool is officially back again. Don’t worry if you haven’t been yet. We'll have all the gear so all you have to bring is swim gear and a towel!  Just show up on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to the arena.

Thursday night is our Polo night. Time to start practicing for Varsities!

We're going to Kerry where there are many popular rivers for white water kayaking. This is a fantastic weekend for new developing skills as well as getting experience on different rivers.

ULKC's Big Surprise event is happening Thursday 24th of October, and I can't wait!

With all the college work piling on, what better way to get away from all of it than a night out with ULKC. The plans for this event are being kept top secret so I can't provide any more information, however if you join our event page you will get more details closer to the time. Tickets are on sale after the pool .

Make sure to get yours as places are limited. Tickets cost 10 euro.

It s that time of year again for one of ULKC's most loved trips - LAHINCH. Taking place at the end of week 3 or the weekend of Friday 28th September. This trip is open to everyone including beginners. You are 110% guaranteed a great weekend where you'll make loads of ends, get a taste of some surf kayaking in one of Ireland's top surfing beaches, daycent banter and sure you might even get the shift, who knows. JUST GO, you won't regret it. 

We ll be starting taking sign ups  at the pool this week . The total cost is €35 . Payments must be made by cash only. Talk to Amy Dermody if you've any issues regarding payment. This trip is for members only so make sure you have paid your membership!! (this can be done at any of our pool sessions) 

Included in your €35 is; transport, accommodation, all necessary kayaking gear and some food (breakfast & dinner Saturday and breakfast Sunday) 

We'll be leaving the UL boathouse at 6pm Friday 28th September and returning to UL in the evening of Sunday 1st October.

This is an event for all abilities from beginner to expert. The Olympics take place on the UL Open Days where we'll usually be meeting in the boathouse on campus. Even if you're new to a part of kayaking do try your best to take part, this event will have a lot of members willing to share their knowledge and catch you if you fall (swim).

As the new semester begins, The University of Limerick Kayak Club is proud to welcome its newest members, and what a better way to introduce the newcomers to the spirit of ULKC than with a weekend of fun and adventure! On the 22nd of September we set off on our annual trip to Lahinch, Co. Clare. The weekend proved to be a truly amazing experience for all. We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting a charity fun day in aid of Limerick Marine Search and Rescue on Sunday the 25th of September.

We will have try a kayak and SUP sessions running every hour, and hoverball archery and water walking zorbs running from Limerick Boat Club and we will also have Ireland's tallest mobile climbing wall over on Harveys Quay.
All activities will be free and will operate on a first come first served basis.
We will have collections buckets at all the activities and hope you can give generously to such a worthy cause.
