On the chilly Saturday morning of February 7th , a group of OPC members participated in an exhilarating orienteering trip to Curraghchase. This gave them the opportunity to test skills which they developed through weekly orienteering sessions on Wednesdays and Thursday in a unfimiliar new environmnet.

Here the group learnt about navigational skills with compasses and bearings next to the magnificent Curraghchase House and lakes. Then the group split into the teams to undertake a 6km course set out through trails, grassland and woodland around the house, lake and woods.

It was thrilling and exciting course with teams going through the wilderness to get to some control points. Some got lost while others didn´t throughout the course. Accrording to some, a cave was even spotted.

The trip was superb giving members a chance to talk, hang out and explore while further developing their orienteering skills. The OPC regularly does orienteering on campus. We look forward to hosting the National Sprint Championships which are being held in UL in 2 weeks time on the weekend of 21st-22nd this month.

Huge thanks to our Orienteering Officer Michael for organisimg this amazing day out. Photo Credit: Michael McCarthy
