News- Gobnait O'Connell Winners for 2022

Posted 5th Apr 2022
Author Katherine Sexton (Chairperson)

I am absolutely delightes to announce that the Con Colbert Cumann has been awarded the Gobnait O'Connell Award for 2022!! This award is given to the best third level unit in Ireland. We were presented the Gobnait O'Connell Trophy and a certificate by An Taoiseadh Micheál Martin at the annual National Youth Conference in Donegal over the weekend.

In order to win the award, we had to submit a bid detailling all the work completed by our members over the last term. This ranged from membership recruiment, supporting our elected representatives, social media campaigns and events we hosted. In the end, we were selected over UCD and UCC, who have won the award for the last two years. I am so proud of our members and their dedication to our unit.

Munster Hustings and Jack Lynch Cup

Posted 4th Nov 2019
Author Katherine Sexton

Last Saturday we held some very successful events here in UL. We were chosen as the hosts of the Munster Hustings, which saw over ten candidates debate with each other for the positions which are up for grabs next Saturday at the National Youth Council at Laois. With over 30 attendees, it was a very successful event. Many thanks are extended to Cllr. James Collins who chaired the Hustings for us.

After the Hustings, we held the Jack Lynch Cup in the newly opened Macguires pitches. Teams from Munster, Kildare, Leinster, Ulster and Connaught participated. Kildare were the eventual winners and we wish them the best of luck next year as they will now be hosting the tournament. Congratulations to Conor Gallagher who was awarded Player of the Tournament.

The presentation was held in Jerry O Dea's bar after and we thank Cllr. Jerry O Dea and members of Limerick City Ogra for allowing us to host our event there.
