Fencing FAQs
What do I need to bring?
If you want to fence with the club, we ask you come to the club with certain gear. 1. Athletic clothes: I.E something you would wear while running, going to the gym, or another similar activity. Fencing is a physically taxing sport and as such, highly manoevrable, comfortable work out gear is required. 2. Decent fitness shoes: For the same reasons as above, we recommend you come wearing shoes that are able to handle a lot of intense footwork. Wear something comfortable, light, yet hardwearing. The recommendation is tennis shoes or running shoes. But any fitness shoes that work for indoor court surfaces work. 3. A water bottle: You will sweat a lot and drink a lot. A water bottle, and possibly some emergency snacks come recommended for that reason.
What swords do you fence?
We fence all three swords. But currently we are a heavily sabre focused club. Which means the vast majority of our fencers will be fencing sabre.
Are you beginner friendly?
Yes, we welcome people of all skill levels. Be they beginners, or experienced fencers

About Fencing Club

Come try a new sport!

Fencing is the modern Olympic sport of sword fighting, with roots in the sword fighting traditions of Italy and France. In fencing, two competitors try to score "touches" on each other by hitting each other with fencing swords. Fencing provides a great workout, and a great chance to learn a new sport! Beginners are welcome, and our coach will adjust each class to fit what the group is looking for, whether a more athletic workout, or focus on learning new fencing tactics.

Training is open to everyone, so come along to the main sports hall in the PESS building.

Training takes place at 6pm - 8pm every Tuesday and at 6pm - 7pm on every Wednesday. Booking is required to attend.

The membership fee is 5 euro for the year for UL Students. Membership is not limited to University of Limerick Students.
