In the last competition of the year, the RITA Nationals Josh added a Gold medal in sparring to his haul for the year while Becca took a double bronze.

UL TKD didn't have to go far for their latest competition. The ITA Irish Championships were hosted here in the UL arena last weekend. The UL ladies dominated in their categories with medals on the day for Marli Serfontein (Gold - Blue to red belt sparring, Gold - Special technique and Silver - Patterns) and Giulia Postir (Gold - Blue to red belt sparring (lightweight) and Silver - Special technique). The ladies have the honour of calling themselves the new national champions!

Medals for UL TKD at the Redking

Last Sunday 23rd of October UL TKD members Joshua Byrne and Rebecca Anderson attended the 'Redking Rumble' in the little Island sports complex Cork. The competition was well attended with clubs from all over Ireland taking part in both patterns (choreographed traditional movements) and sparring.

The competition kicked off with blackbelt patterns where Mr. Byrne (1st degree) came up against the eventual winner in round one. He bowed out of the competition having displayed an improved form in a strong performance. In sparring Mr. Byrne proved more successful, making it to the final of the lightweight category before taking the silver in a close fought 2x2 minute final.

In the colour belt category Rebecca proved successful in patterns, taking the gold medal for her pattern ‘Won Hyo’. She was less successful in the sparring, taking the bronze after an unlucky pairing against an extremely strong competitor who eventually won the category.

In all the two UL competitors took home three medals between them, the first medals of the season for the club. The competition was great preparation for the ITA nationals set to take place 13th & 14th of November here in the UL Sports centre.
