Last weekend, 16 of our beginner, intermediate and advanced archers travelled to University College Cork to compete in the National Student Indoor Championships 2024. It was a long and tough weekend but our athletes were very brave, especially those who had never attended national shoots before. Saturday involved 60-arrow qualifiers, with most of our archers placing in the top 10 of their respective categories. We celebrated with a game of bowling last night, and let me tell you, our aiming skills were not transferable!

Our scores on Saturday determined where we placed on Sunday for head-to-heads. Everyone in UL made it to the second round which was a huge achievement, especially for our beginners. Our intermediate archers were knocked out of the competition as we competed against the top archers in other clubs. Most made it to the 1/8 match but unfortunately, we were knocked out. It was a tense session, many of our athletes had to do a one-arrow shoot-off with everyone watching. Once the head-to-heads were finished, we had a short break before the team shoot. Teams are mixed and consist of the top three archers in each division. On our barebow team, we had Lauren Moriarty, Brian Carroll, and Andrew Coghlan. They put up an amazing fight, but sadly they were knocked out in the bronze medal match, placing 4th. Our recurve team was Odhran Prouveur, Dervla Ryan, and Roko Strgar. We made it to the quarter-finals, but lost the match to DCU by one point. Nevertheless, it was a lot of fun and a great challenge. We are even more motivated to prepare our teams and improve our scores!
